[SMM Rare Earth Morning Meeting Summary: Magnetic Material Enterprises Restocked in Small Quantities, Rare Earth Quotations Rose] Last week, the market quotations for rare earth oxides rose slightly. Most industry participants believed that the future price of rare earths was difficult to predict, and currently, they mainly expected the market to remain stable. Driven by cost support, it is expected that the price of oxides will not decline significantly.

SMM News on June 3:

Rare Earth Ores

Prices: The price of rare earth carbonate is approximately 35,200 yuan/mt, monazite is priced at around 41,500 yuan/mt, and the standard ore price of medium-yttrium, europium-rich ore is about 189,000 yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Recently, rare earth ore suppliers have been reluctant to sell due to low ore prices, resulting in a sluggish trading atmosphere in the rare earth ore market and difficulties for separation plants in procuring raw materials.

Rare Earth Oxides

Prices: The quotation range for Pr-Nd oxide is approximately 437,000-439,000 yuan/mt, the mainstream quotation range for dysprosium oxide is 1.61-1.63 million yuan/mt, and the quotation for terbium oxide has been adjusted to around 7.16-7.2 million yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Last week, quotations in the rare earth oxide market increased slightly. Most market participants believe that it is difficult to predict the future prices of rare earths, and currently, they mainly expect stability. Supported by cost factors, it is anticipated that oxide prices will not decline significantly.

Rare Earth Metals

Prices: The mainstream quotation range for Pr-Nd alloy is 535,000-539,000 yuan/mt, the quotation for dysprosium-iron alloy is approximately 1.58-1.59 million yuan/mt, and the quotation for terbium metal is around 8.8-8.9 million yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Last week, some magnetic material enterprises conducted a small amount of restocking, leading to a slight increase in market trading volume and an upward adjustment in suppliers' quotations. However, based on the order-taking situation downstream, some market participants believe that there will not be a significant increase in rare earth prices in the future.

NdFeB Blanks

Prices: The price of NdFeB blank N38 (Ce) is reported at 142-152 yuan/kg; the price of NdFeB blank 40M is reported at 188-198 yuan/kg; the price of NdFeB blank 40H is reported at 192-202 yuan/kg; and the price of NdFeB blank 45SH (Ce) is reported at 242-262 yuan/kg.

Supply and Demand: Last week, influenced by the increase in metal market prices, magnetic material enterprises, constrained by cost pressure, had to raise their quotations. However, the order-taking situation did not improve. Some market participants believe that blank prices are unlikely to increase significantly in the short term.

NdFeB Scrap

Prices: The price of Pr-Nd recycled from NdFeB scrap is reported at 472-477 yuan/kg; the price of dysprosium recycled from NdFeB scrap is reported at 1,610-1,621 yuan/kg; and the price of terbium recycled from NdFeB scrap is reported at 5,439-5,495 yuan/kg.

Supply and Demand: Last week, influenced by the increase in oxide market prices, scrap prices also rose. Driven by the shortage of NdFeB scrap and supported by oxide market prices, it is difficult for scrap prices to decline significantly.

Luxembourg-based Frontier Rare Earths today announced it successfully obtained a $20 million investment from South Africa's Industrial Development Corporation (IDS) and signed an offtake agreement with France's Carester. The company has now initiated the final feasibility study for its South African magnet-use rare earth and battery-grade manganese project. Frontier Rare Earths is currently advancing the development of the Zandkopsdrift project in South Africa. The project is expected to achieve an annual capacity of approximately 3,038 mt of Pr-Nd oxide, 114 mt of dysprosium oxide, and 25 mt of terbium oxide over the first 25 years.
